G.I. Joe: Retaliation International Trailer / The Rock for President

Wednesday, 8 February 2012

The first trailer for G.I. Joe: Retaliation, the sequel to 2009's The Rise of Cobra, was released way back in July 2011. But following the half-minute Superb Owl spot from the weekend, which can be costly ($4 1/2 million per 30 second advert), a longer, international, more French version has been uploaded. See below for the "nouveau style"...

The film stars Channing Tatum, Ray Park and RZA. It also has a cameo from Bruce "My Cholesterol is a Little High" Willis. The set pieces do look rather endearing, specifically the mountain-face-samurai-sword battle near the trailer's end (yes, that was actually a sentence).

But this is simply an excuse to post a quote from Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, from an interview with Movieline. He was asked about having insider info on the death of Osama Bin Laden - and how he knew about it a little before the general public:

"Right now the best way that I can impact the world is through entertainment. One day, and that day will come, I can impact the world through politics. The great news is that I am American, therefore I can become President."

American politics has a history of movie actors occupying significant roles; Ronald Reagan... Arnold Schwarzenegger... can you smell what I'm cooking?

  1. I can smell it.

Also, I am all for this sequel. The trailer looks like great fun and it could be one of the best theater romps of 2012.

  3. Looks like a lot of fun to me. The fashion of retaking all the good old series of the 80's sometimes end up badly but the first GI Joe was not too bad. I will definitely give a chance at the second one!

  4. I felt that the first GI Joe movie was what the Transformers flicks *should* have been. Just good fun. I'm looking forward to this film. While I'm not as excited for it as I am other films, but I'll probably check it out when it's released.
