Joseph Gordon-Levitt to make his directorial debut

Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception, 50/50) is going to make his feature directing debut with an untitled comedy at Voltage Pictures. He has written the script for the film and will also be starring in it, with Scarlett Johansson on board as one of the two female leads. It will be produced by Ram Bergman Productions and Gordon-Levitt’s hitRECord Films.

The film is described as “a sexy comedy about a modern-day Don Juan and his quest to become less of a selfish dick.” Gordon-Levitt will be playing that character and the other major female role is due to be cast shortly. He spoke to Deadline about his motivation for directing:

“I was a child actor for years and quit at 19, went to school for a while, and a big part of why I came back was that I ultimately wanted to make movies. I spent a year working with Christopher Nolan, Rian Johnson, Steven Spielberg, and I did my best to pay attention. I’ve also been making short films for a long time now, I’ve directed a ton of them, and that is a huge part of why I feel comfortable and confident in this.”

This should be a good year for Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who will be seen in The Dark Knight Rises, Premium Rush, Looper and Lincoln. His untitled comedy will start shooting on April 16th in Los Angeles.
