Michael Fassbender (X-Men: First Class, Shame) is reported to be in early talks to star in an adaptation of Charles Martin’s novel The Mountain Between Us. Gerardo Naranjo (Miss Bala) is set to make his Hollywood debut directing the romantic drama.

The story follows two strangers who survive a plane crash in the wilderness. They are forced to rely on each other while they recover from their injuries and try to make it back to civilisation, eventually falling in love as well. Fassbender would play a doctor and avid climber who uses his skills to help a female writer survive the harsh conditions.

Michael Fassbender can next be seen in Ridley Scott’s Prometheus with Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba and Guy Pearce, which opens in the UK on June 1st. He is also set to star in The Counselor, also directed by Ridley Scott, from a script by Cormac McCarthy, and he will be reteaming with director Steve McQueen (Hunger, Shame) for Twelve Years a Slave.
