First trailer for Rian Johnson’s Looper arrives online

After what seemed to be an endless stream of teasers this past week, the first full-length trailer has arrived for Looper – the third feature from acclaimed writer-director Rian Johnson (Brick, The Brothers Bloom) – and while it looks to be a huge departure from his previous work, judging by the trailer it appears that Johnson is set to deliver once again.

Looper reunites Johnson with his Brick star Joseph Gordon-Levitt (The Dark Knight Rises), who leads the cast as Joe – an assassin or “looper” who specialises in killing targets sent back in time by a criminal organisation. JGL is joined by Bruce Willis (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) as an older version of Joe, while the supporting cast also includes Emily Blunt (The Adjustment Bureau), Paul Dano (There Will Be Blood) and Jeff Daniels (Dumb and Dumber). Take a look at the synopsis, and check out the exciting first trailer below…

Time travel will be invented, but it will be illegal and only available on the black market. When the mob wants to get rid of someone, they send their target 30 years into the past, where a “looper”—a hired gun, like Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt)—is waiting to mop up. Joe is getting rich and life is good… until the day the mob decides to “close the loop,” sending back Joe’s future self (Bruce Willis) for assassination.

Looper is set for release on September 28th.
