New G.I. Joe: Retaliation posters arrive online

Here at Flickering Myth, we’ve got high hopes that the upcoming action sequel G.I. Joe: Retaliation will go some way to erasing the memory of the Joes’ first big-screen outing in Stephen Sommers’ G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. With a C.V that includes Step Up 2: The Streets, Step Up 3D and Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, incoming director Jon M. Chu may not have been the most obvious choice to take over the reins, but he’s overseen near-wholesale changes to series, including the addition of A-list acting talent such as Dwayne Johnson (Fast & Furious 5) and Bruce Willis (Die Hard) – both of whom feature prominently in the latest wave of promotional posters from the sequel.

Based upon what we’ve seen so far, it’s obvious that The Rock is set to be the star attraction in Retaliation and the UK poster (released via Empire) only serves to confirm this, with the former WWE star front and centre as Roadblock. Joining Johnson and Willis’ General Joe Colton on the poster are Snake Eyes (Ray Park) and Lady Jaye (Adrianne Palicki), while it’s also nice to see Cobra Commander being given such a significant position – even if he is sporting an ear that looks remarkably similar to Storm Shadow (Byung-hun Lee)…

Fortunately, the US poster (released via Coming Soon) rectifies this ghastly Photoshop mis-hap and provides us with the opportunity for a very simple game of spot the difference…

While the Brazilian poster reverts to the G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra theme with the addition of Ray Stevenson (Thor) as Firefly and Elodie Yung (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) as Jinx. I guess the female ninja is either working for Cobra now, or she’s undercover…

Update – And now here’s the Mexican poster, which may just be the pick of the bunch so far…

Also featuring in the cast for G.I. Joe Retaliation are Channing Tatum (Dear John) as Duke, D.J. Cotrona (Dear John) as Flint, Stephen Martines (General Hospital) as Cross-Country, RZA (American Gangster) as Blind Master, Joseph Mazzello (Jurassic Park) as Mouse, Eddie Hargitay (The Superagent) as Tunnel Rat, Arnold Vosloo (The Mummy) as Zartan and Jonathan Pryce (Brazil) as the US President.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation is set for release in North America on June 29th and hits UK cinemas on August 3rd.
