New RoboCop set photos featuring Joel Kinnaman and Michael Keaton

We had the first glimpse of Joel Kinnaman (The Killing) in the new RoboCop suit a few weeks ago thanks to some set photos of the forthcoming RoboCop reboot from director Jose Padilha (Elite Squad), and now the latest shots from the set in Toronto (courtesy of newscom) gives us the first look at the CEO of OmniCorp, played by Michael Keaton (Batman)…

Update: Here’s a couple of new images via Flickr user Ronnie Yip, which give us our best look yet at RoboCop with his visor…

RoboCop’s old partner is played by Michael Kenneth Williams (The Wire) and Abbie Cornish (Limitless) takes on the role of Robocop’s wife. The new RoboCop suit has certainly divided opinion amongst RoboCop enthusiasts, seeing as Padilha has decided to ditch the original shiny metal look and opted for a more matte black “Dark Knight” type ensemble.

The reboot has a lot to live up to following Paul Verhoeven’s excellent 1987 original, which starred Peter Weller (Naked Lunch) as the part man, part machine protagonist. The official synopsis of the reboot is as follows:

In RoboCop, the year is 2029 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front. Alex Murphy is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilizes their remarkable science of robotics to save Alex’s life. He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.

Director José Padilha (Elite Squad) reimagines the tale of part man, part machine, all cop starring Joel Kinnaman (The Killing) as the title character, Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight Rises) as the scientist who creates RoboCop, and Samuel L. Jackson (The Avengers) as media mogul Pat Novak. RoboCop is being produced by Strike Entertainment’s Marc Abraham and Eric Newman, with Eric Carraro as Executive Producer.

The new RoboCop is set to be released on August 9th, 2013.
