Zack Synder’s (Watchmen) Superman reboot Man of Steel is certainly one of the most anticipated films of 2013, especially following the release of the impressive theatrical trailer last month. A few days ago, we got a new image of Henry Cavill (The Cold Light of Day) as the iconic superhero, and now Warner Bros. France has revealed the full uncropped still from the forthcoming comic book adaptation…

Henry Cavill Superman Man of Steel

With a script written by David S. Goyer (Batman Begins) and Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight Rises) on board as producer, there is a great deal expectation surrounding the return of Superman after such a long hiatus, and the official synopsis definitely ups the ante in terms of excitement:

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Cavill) is a young twenty something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone’s imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question – Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha and Jonathan Kent, Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as “Superman,” not only to shine as the world’s last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves.

Man of Steel boasts an impressive cast and intriguing storyline that delves deep into the Superman mythology, with General Zod (Michael Shannon; Boardwalk Empire) and his evil henchwoman Faora (Antje Traue; Pandorum) both set to feature alongside Superman’s birth parents Jor-El (Russell Crowe; Gladiator) and Lara Lor-Van (Ayelet Zurer; Angels and Demons), and Clark Kent’s adoptive parents, Martha (Diane Lane; Jumper) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner; Hatfields & McCoys). Meanwhile Amy Adams (The Fighter) stars as Daily Planet journalist and Clark Kent’s love interest Lois Lane, with Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix) appearing as editor-in-chief of The Daily Planet, Perry White.

Man of Steel is set for release in June and will be shown in 2D, 3D, and IMAX.
