reported that Walt Disney Pictures had tasked Don Hall (Meet the Robinsons, The Princess and the Frog) with developing the studio's first Marvel animated feature, which would be based upon the Japanese superhero team Big Hero 6. Since then, we've heard very little about the project, but Bleeding Cool has uncovered a nugget of information from industry tracking company Rentrak, suggesting that Big Hero 6 has been scheduled for a Spanish theatrical release on November 21st 2014.
In terms of a possible North American release date, Disney has favoured November for its big animated offerings these past few years, with Chicken Little, Bolt, Tangled and Wreck-It Ralph all arriving that month and Frozen set to arrive on November 27th of this year. The studio currently has November 7th, 2014 earmarked for an as-yet-untitled feature film, so there's a good chance Big Hero 6 could occupy this spot. Meanwhile, UK audiences traditionally face several months wait for Disney's animated features to cross the Atlantic, so presumably Big Hero 6 will arrive on these shores early in 2015, unless it follows the release pattern for Marvel Studios' live-action offerings, which generally arrive here prior to their North American release.
So, between Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy and Big Hero 6, 2014 looks to be shaping up as another busy year for Disney and its Marvel properties.
