We already know that Andrew Garfield’s web-slinger is set to have his hands full when he dons the mask for a second outing in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 next year, with Jamie Foxx (Django Unchained) and Paul Giamatti (Sideways) starring as Electro and The Rhino respectively, while Chris Cooper (American Beauty) will portray Peter Parker’s arch-nemesis Norman Osborn, a.k.a. The Green Goblin. Well, if a new rumour is to be believed, we can now add another classic face from Spidey’s rogues gallery, with Comic Book Movie suggesting that Colm Feore (Thor) is playing Adrian Toomes – better known as The Vulture.
Now, there is the chance that this could be nothing more than speculation and if so, it’s nothing new, seeing as Feore has been rumoured as The Vulture since he was first announced as joining the cast of the Marc Webb-directed sequel. It’s also puzzling why his role has not been revealed (ditto for Felicity Jones’ character), especially as Sony wasted little time in confirming the identity of the other villains – unless of course it turns out to be a major plot twist, in which case I probably should have put a spoiler warning at the start of this article.
Anyway, in what certainly could be considered a spoiler if true (that’s your signal), CBM’s report goes on to state that the sequel could end with The Vulture joining forces with Rhino, Electro and the Green Goblin to form a version of the Sinister Six, who would then battle the wall-crawler in the inevitable third movie. So if you thought Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 was crowded, just wait until The Amazing Spider-Man 3 hits screens…
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is currently filming ahead of a release on May 2nd, 2014, with a cast that also includes the returning Emma Stone (Gwen Stacy) and Sally Field (Aunt May) alongside Spidey newcomers Dane DeHaan (Chronicle) as Harry Osborn, and Shailene Woodley (The Descendants) as Mary Jane Watson.
