Mel Gibson is pumped for The Expendables 3

Yesterday the first images from the set of The Expendables 3 arrived online showing Sylvester Stallone’s Barney Ross, and now we have a look a beefed up Mel Gibson as he gears up to play new bad guy and co-founder of the band of mercenaries, Conrad Stonebank…

Mel Gibson on the set of The Expendables 3

In THE EXPENDABLES 3, Barney (Stallone), Christmas (Jason Statham) and the rest of the team comes face-to-face with Conrad Stonebanks (Gibson), who years ago co-founded The Expendables with Barney. Stonebanks subsequently became a ruthless arms trader and someone who Barney was forced to kill… or so he thought. Stonebanks, who eluded death once before, now is making it his mission to end The Expendables — but Barney has other plans. Barney decides that he has to fight old blood with new blood, and brings in a new era of Expendables team members, recruiting individuals who are younger, faster and more tech-savvy. The latest mission becomes a clash of classic old-school style versus high-tech expertise in the Expendables’ most personal battle yet.

The Expendables 3 is filming in Bulgaria under director Patrick Hughes (Red Hill), with a cast that also includes returning Expendables Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture and Terry Crews alongside franchise newcomers Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas, Harrison Ford, Kellan Lutz, Glen Powell, MMA star Ronda Rousey and boxer Victor Ortiz.

    • I agree with you, all this talent in front of the camera it shouldn’t be so mediocre

    • Frank

No he didn’t, he is and always will be a hack of an action star. EXP 2 sucked it! Expendables wasan alright update to Dogs of War.

  • chris

  • Stuart Scooby Ellis

  • Thomas Rakewell

Grandad’s been at the steroids again.

  • Fancy

    still strong, Gibson

  • Dizzle

  • Agassifan

Nothing says roids like 60 year olds with huge arms

    • dustyfox

Actually, anyone that got big really fast (like him depicted here, Hemsworth in Thor, Bale in Batman… countless others) were on some kind of gear because you cannot make gains like that in a few years unless you’re a genetic lottery winner, and that’s really very rare.

Pretty much most of Hollywood’s beefcakes got there by cutting those corners. Then they pull a McGwire/Armstrong and lie until caught or too old to care what anyone thinks of it.

      • klorglork

bullshit. i gained 50 lbs of beef when I went from boy to man in 6 months. NO PEDs. Its just about eating like a motherfucker

        • Flash

its not going to be 50lbs of muscle that’s for sure even trainers say that’s impossible to make gains like that even in a year

          • Jim

Most trainers are uneducated dimwits like you. Gibson has always been fit. He was a stuntman before becoming an actor and was an athlete as well as a regular in weekly bar fights in Sydney, Australia. Great actor but a legit psychopath or at the least sociopath.

          • Daemonocracy

Speaking of uneducated, is that your professional diagnosis that he is a psycho/sociopath (they’re the same thing)? Nothing about him suggests he’s a psychopath, politically incorrect drunken rants are not a sympton.

          • Sean

Not true completely. Depends on age and hours spent doing it, when I was 14 and in the peak of puberty I did the body mass analyzes and in 7 months put on 30 lbs of muscle, but then again, at that age most guys put on quite a bit without working out. But at Mel’s age? You’d have to be stupid to believe he could do that, especially having never been that big.

      • Jim

        Bale’s gains were real.

        • dustyfox

Yeah, because anyone with hard enough dedication and a diet like a 10 year old can bulk up by about 100lbs in half a year at the age of 32 with no gear whatsoever.

      • tevii

Nonsense. It depends on your commitment. Anyone with excuses like yours obviously just dont have the commitment. Working out hard in the gym can get you the gains needed for this. You need to remember, he doesnt have a day job, acting is his job. So when he got a role in a movie , he can spend whatever hours needed to get the size. And he didnt become an A-list actor by making excuses or being lazy.

      • Kal-El-1983

it is entirely possible, consider that Hemsworth was on a 6,000 calorie a day diet and working out constantly…now to question how strong they are is a whole different matter. Mass is easy to build, their actors not athletes. They just have to look strong.

        • Jeff

The dedication and strict hardcore diet is the story they always sell. They leave out the $10,000 worth of Anabolic steriods and growth hormone and insulin and whatever else they use.

          • Kal-El-1983

as I said..It is entirely possible that they used something to cheat so to speak. But I have been around bodybuilders…it is possible to bulk up very quickly when you do nothing but work out and consume calories. But it’s only mass..not strength. The guys who can left 400lbs don’t have nice formed muscles usually.

  • yaweeeh

he looks like old man logan or old bruce wayne!!

    • Sean Torres

    • Methadras

He would be awesome as either Old Man Logan if they ever made a movie of that and if they ever made a movie of the original Frank Millar’s Dark Knight when old batman fights old superman.

  • Joe Thomas

    That’s one hot anti-Semite!

  • Jimhad

    good old hgh

    • Jeff

Also, roids. A couple of cycles is all it takes.

  • KaylaKane69

I’m not a film critic I happened to like the other Expendables 1 more than 2 (neither 1 is winning a oscar) & a fan of Gibson. Y’all talking “he’s on steroids” I’ve lifted for like 30 yrs & I can tell you that is natural a steroid build looks nothing like that. The man stays in shape has professional trainers & gets paid Millions. You’d be buffed up too, Hell I’m 50 & have gyrls 20-30 yrs younger hit on me all the time & tell me I look way younger. I stay in shape & todays gyrls like older men they tell me we are more grounded & stable. Lets hope Hollywood doesn’t F this movie up

    • Jake Roberts

I will find you and punch you into convulsions.

      • Guest

You contain that shit right there, son!

    • stuffsticks

thanks gramps… Mel’s arms look exactly like what a roider’s arms look like. muscle is oversized and looking chunky without definition

      • Daemonocracy

What muscle is unusually large in this picture? He looks like most guys his age or younger who just walked out of the gym after pumping up. I wouldn’t be surprised if he pumped up just before this photo was taken.

      • the brainster

He’s absolutely on juice, but you are completely clueless.

        • stuffsticks

          Slowpoke is slow…

    • Dave Melges

It’s funny how lifters start off talking about what everyone else is talking about but always end up spending twice as much time talking about themselves, lol.

Gibson stayed in great shape as an adult for 20 years, and was always extremely lean, and hasn’t been in great shape in more than a decade. This look is entirely UN-natural for him……it’s roids or far more likely, PHOTO-EDITING.

He’s probably packed on 5 pounds of good muscle in 3 months of hard work, and he’s retaining water, AND someone tweaked the pic. Wait for the movie, he’ll be the fittest we’ve seen him in 15 years, but he won’t be HUGE.

      • Jeff

Gibson was getting the ‘old man slim’ look going on. (He’s 57) Also, the alcholism and what not.
He probably hit the gym when he got this part and did a couple of cycles of roids and started the HGH.
After filming this will be gone fast.

  • Jack Mack

    Whatever he’s taking….I want some!!!!!

  • Saros

    Hmmm…. Big Papi… I’m loving this…

  • Bilal Khan

Loved Exp.2! It was a very good watch!

  • Bleak5170

    Apparently Mel found Sly’s stash.

  • The only way to get to the bottom of this is to ask him to count to ten. If he stomps it out with his hoof, then we know.

But personally, I think it’s without roids. He’s always been athletic, extremely so, and would have the time and dedication and money to afford the food to bulk up like that.

  • wm tom

phony wood, another dud probably..snipes has the inside Phonywood connection, fresh out of tax prison and getting a nice paycheck already..same old, same old

  • Ivan Bial

    Loved the “expendables”

Will not watch or pay money to see anything that Mel Gibson is in or associated
    with. That includes future “Expendables”

He is an Anti-Semitic raciest who chases after conspiracies
as long they are about Jews.

  • chuldainer_el_cayuso

    They should have put seagal

  • Ronald Parker

    He looks great

  • Zachary Chichwak

Can anybody say why the fuck they care about how or why he got beefed up? He’s an action movie icon, and is doing whatever it takes to maintain that image…. Whether it’s HGH or just ball-breaking workouts, or both; who cares! That being said, it IS possible to bulk up like that within a short time span, say 4-7 months…a certain percentage of it would be of course ‘water’ weight, and granted at his age it’s gonna b harder to achieve the results that he may have enjoyed earlier in life. He’s still got a bit of a gut so that should tell you right away that he’s not doing much cardio at all. I’d say he’s doing nothing but consuming several thousand calories a day and lifting close to 4 hours on most days in split up into several sessions. If his arms looked like that and had a 6 pack, I’d say it was hormones. But you can only see the workout results on his bi’ and tri’s….I’m glad he’s back

    • AnonymousByRight

Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) uses a technique when shooting w/no shirt on… he doesn’t drink any fluids close to 24 hrs to the shoot. It makes you look even more ripped. Hugh Jackman got that from him and did it while filming Wolverine.

But yeah… I’m just glad to see Mel working. After his blowup, he lost his Directorial gig film about the Vikings. He’s lost many opportunities since then. But he’ll come around with time. People forget things. He’s just got to stay away from the drink.

  • Molly

I think just the tricep part looks photoshopped a bit, the color and size compared to the rest of the arm, the rest looks pretty normal for so someone working out.

    • Connie

He is doing something right, or Hollywood wdnt be calling… Can I just say he is not aging well from the neck up?

      • AnonymousByRight

Yeah, that’s what years of chain smoking will do to a face. At least he’s genuine enough not to get hair implants… those are hideous and say so much about a person.

As to his arms… they’re real. I know Stallone uses Human Growth Hormone. Gibson is probably using it too… that stuff can work wonders. But it can mess your heart up as well… that’s what happened to Arnold- he’d be dead if it wasn’t for surgery.

  • Anders

    Hahaha…. roids.
