After reportedly missing out on the role of Scarlet Witch in Joss Whedon’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Saoirse Ronan is now rumoured to be up for another hotly-anticipated 2015 sequel, with the Irish actress said to have auditioned for a part in J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode VII.
The story first emerged over at Latino Review, who have already thrown up countless names as possibilities for the cast including Ewan McGregor and Jonathan Rhys Meyers, both of whom have recently denied that there’s been any contact with Lucasfilm. However, the more reliable Bleeding Cool has apparently verified the report with their own sources, stating that Ronan has read for the female lead, although her involvement is far from certain. As is usually the case with casting reports like these.
Meanwhile, Latino Review is also claiming that the recent denials about Benedict Cumberbatch reuniting with his Star Trek Into Darkness helmer is just a smokescreen and that Cumberbatch will in fact appear in a minor role in Episode VII before emerging as the big bad in Episode VIII and Episode IX. Of course, with the film set to go into production in just a few short months, it shouldn’t be long before all of these rumours make way for some real casting news…
