A project originally conceived to be a starring vehicle for Tony Curtis (Some Like It Hot) back in 1957 will finally be making its way to the big screen because of an Oscar winner. Unbrokenwhich is directed and produced by Angelina Jolie (Girl, Interrupted) is based on the book Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemptionwritten by Laura Hillenbrand; the biopic chronicles the time spent by American Olympic runner Louis “Louie” Zamperini as a Japanese POW.
“It will be hard to make a film worthy of this great man,” stated Jolie in a press release. “I am deeply honoured to have the chance and will do all I can to bring Louie’s inspiring story to life. Everyone involved in the film shares this deep responsibility. Like all readers of Laura’s book and all people who love and admire Louie, I am a fan who has learned so much. He has made me a better person.”
Unbroken stars Jack O’Connell (300: Rise of an Empire) as Louis Zamperini and is scheduled to be released on January 16th, 2015.
