Last week, Ryan Reynolds hinted at progress on the long-gestating Deadpool movie, stating that “within the last couple of weeks [it’s] taken a few very, very small tiptoes forward.” Well, director Tim Miller has now echoed that sentiment, as well as revealing that the screenwriters Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese (Zombieland, G.I. Joe: Retaliation) have turned in a revised script for the X-Men Origins: Wolverine spin-off / retcon.
“We will never give up,” Miller tells ClevverMovies. “Deadpool is still alive and we’re just waiting for the studio to embrace what a fucking awesome film this would be. Ryan is ready, I am ready. And the fans are more than ready. We just need that elusive green light.”
With Miller, Reynolds, Wernick and Reese looking at a hard R-rating for Deadpool, it remains to be seen whether 20th Century Fox will ever give the go ahead to the project, but it seems likely that the Merc with the Mouth would feature as part of the roster of Jeff Wadlow’s X-Force movie, so perhaps a well-received turn there would finally convince the studio to pull the trigger…
