Following the sad news this week of American author Tom Clancy’s passing, Paramount Pictures has released the first trailer for the upcoming spy thriller Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, which sees Chris Pine (Star Trek Into Darkness) stepping into the role of the CIA analyst previously portrayed by Alec Baldwin (The Hunt for Red October), Harrison Ford (Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger) and Ben Affleck (The Sum of All Fears).
The franchise reboot sees Kenneth Branagh (Thor) directing as well as starring as the film’s villain, while other cast members include Keira Knightley (Anna Karenina), Kevin Costner (Man of Steel) and David Paymer (Mr. Saturday Night). Check out the first trailer after the official synopsis….
“The story follows Ryan from 9/11, through his tour of duty in Afghanistan, which scarred him forever, and into his early days in the Financial Intelligence Unit of the modern CIA where he becomes an analyst, under the guardianship of his handler, Harper (Kevin Costner). When Ryan believes he’s uncovered a Russian plot to collapse the United States economy, he goes from being an analyst to becoming a spy and must fight to save his own life and those of countless others, while also trying to protect the thing that’s more important to him than anything, his relationship with his fiancée Cathy (Keira Knightley).”
Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit opens in North America on Christmas Day and in the UK on Boxing Day.
