Murder, She Wrote ran for 12 seasons on CBS from 1984 to 1996. The show starred Angela Lansbury as a mystery writer who finds herself investigating murders that would happen around her. That series was a huge success and now it looks like NBC wants to be a part of that success.
NBC is looking to reboot the series with Octavia Spencer (The Help) taking over the Angela Lansbury role. This new series looks to have a similar storyline but changed enough to make it fresh. The reboot will follow a hospital administrator doubling as a detective enthusiast, who self-publishes her first mystery novel, which helps launch a more active career for her, as an investigator, assisting with real-life cases.
Alexandra Cunningham and David Janollari (Desperate Housewives) will produce, with Cunningham also writing the script. The original Murder, She Wrote had four TV movies as well as a spin-off, The Law & Harry McGraw. It was one of the most successful and longest running shows gaining almost 23 million viewers in its heyday.
