Ryan Reynolds hints at progress on the Deadpool movie

Ryan Reynolds has hinted that the much discussed standalone Deadpool film is still in the works and very, very slowly moving forward. When discussing Turbo with Yahoo! Movies, Reynolds said: “in its current iteration the movie’s actually very small. There’s minimal impact to the studio, which is the way we’re kind of presenting it to them. We’re saying ‘Look, the budget is minimal. Therefore, can we do this the way it should be done?’ Which unfortunately needs a Rated-R or it needs those elements.”

One of the many failures of X Men Origins: Wolverine was it shying away from an R-Rating and for a Deadpool film to succeed it must exploit this.

Reynolds then added, “The script is probably available online, it leaked… It’s very meta, I mean the character knows he’s in a movie, he knows he’s in a comic book. He names studio executives in the script. So, it’s kind of a risky property. But, you know, we’ll see. It’s actually, within the last couple of weeks, taken a few very, very small tiptoes forward. In our lifetime? Yeah, I think so. I think if I were a betting man it’ll get made, eventually. I mean it’s just been developed to high heaven. It has great people around it, so we’ll see.”

The X-Men universe is radically expanding and even if a standalone Deadpool movie doesn’t happen it can be expected he’ll make at least a cameo appearance in Fox’s planned X-Force film.

I hope one of the subplots involves hunting down and executing FalsePool fro X-Men Origins.

    Shhh zed that never happened…
We don’t speak of the deadpool after Ryan renolds disappears

Sounds like they might have fixed the character; what Reynolds describes sure sounds like him. It was such a betrayal and disgrace what they did to him in Origins.

    • Theron

Fixed the character? They haven’t done anything – all they’ve done is talked about it. And why give so much credit to them for doing the easiest and most obvious thing: topping the Origins Deadpool.

“…the character knows he’s in a movie, he knows he’s in a comic book. He names studio executives in the script.”

Sounds like Deadpool to me. Now if only they can correct the costume and give him a decent story they’ll be set. Hell Deadpool doesn’t even need much of a story if you do the character good enough, he’s just that entertaining. Even though the Deadpool game was mediocre in terms of gameplay and terrible with the plot, he alone carried it the whole way and turned what should have been a bomb into an awesome experience.

This exact same type of news has been coming out for 4 years hinting at the progress of the Deadpool movie. Now, I don’t even give a crap.
