They’re creepy and they’re kooky, mysterious and spooky, they’re all together ooky, and they’re heading back to the big screen, with Variety revealing that MGM is in final negotiations to produce an animated feature film reboot of The Addams Family.
The creation of cartoonist Charles Addams, The Addams Family made the leap to television in 1964 in the classic sitcom and later spawned several other incarnations, including a trio of features – The Addams Family, Addams Family Values and the direct-to-video Addams Family Reunion – during the 1990s.
Until recently, Tim Burton had been developed a stop motion adaptation at Illumination, but the project was abandoned earlier this year, which has apparently cleared the way for producers Gail Berman and Lloyd Braun to nab the rights. The screenplay for the animated movie will be written by Pamela Pettler (Corpse Bride, Monster House), although there’s no word yet on a potential director or release date.
