Thor: The Dark World overtakes Iron Man 2 at the global box office, becomes third-highest grossing Marvel Studios release

It may not have reached Iron Man 3 levels of success, but the Chris Hemsworth-headlined Thor: The Dark World has overtaken Iron Man 2’s $623 million global haul this weekend to become the third-highest grossing entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a worldwide total of $627 million. It’s certainly a mighty result for the God of Thunder in his second solo outing, with only Iron Man 3 ($1.215 billion) and The Avengers ($1.518 billion) having grossed more to date. For comparison, the original Thor earned $449.3 million back in 2011.

Thor: The Dark World is directed by Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones) and also stars Natalie Portman (Jane Foster), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Anthony Hopkins (Odin), Rene Russo (Frigga), Stellan Skarsgård (Erik Selvig), Idris Elba (Heimdall), Ray Stevenson, (Volstagg) Jaimie Alexander (Lady Sif), Tadanobu Asano (Hogun), Kat Dennings (Darcy Lewis), Zachary Levi (Fandral), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Algrim the Strong / Kurse), and Christopher Eccleston (Malekith the Accursed).

it was my favourite Marvel film so far as well as fun family entertainment

  • The Avengers Bump is very much a thing. I wonder how it will apply to Non-Avengers stuff like Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man.

It’s all part of the same Marvel universe. Besides, I don’t think Guardians or Antman will need to worry. The audience is there. They are already excited. Just you wait.

      • technically speaking, waiting is all i can really do.
