Warner Bros. wasted little time in giving the go ahead to a sequel to The LEGO Movie, kicking off development before this year’s animated smash hit even opened in cinemas, and now Deadline has revealed that Chris McKay will take over from Phil Lord and Chris Miller to direct the 2017 follow-up.
McKay is no stranger to the world of The LEGO Movie, having served as co-animation director on the first movie. Lord and Miller will remain involved in a producing capacity with Dan Lin and Roy Lee, while Jared Stern (The Internship, Mr. Popper’s Penguins) and Michelle Morgan (Middle of Nowhere, Girl Most Likely) will write the script.
The LEGO Movie sequel is set for release on May 26th, 2017.
