Pierce Brosnan on turning down the role of Batman

pierce-brosnanBack in the 80s, as Warner Bros. prepared to bring The Dark Knight to the screen in Tim Burton’s Batman, a number of actors found themselves under consideration for the Caped Crusader prior to the casting of Michael Keaton, inlcuding Mel Gibson, Tom Selleck, Charlie Sheen, Kevin Costner and even Bill Murray. Another name on the list was that of Pierce Brosnan, and the former Bond has spoken about his decision to turn down the role during a Reddit AMA

“I went and met with Tim Burton for the role of Batman. But I just couldn’t really take it seriously, any man who wears his underpants outside his pants just cannot be taken seriously. That was my foolish take on it. It was a joke, I thought. But how wrong was I? Don’t get me wrong, because I love Batman, and I grew up on Batman. As a kid in Ireland, we used to get our raincoats and tie them round our neck and swing through the bicycle shed…”

    Oh my God, I would’ve loved to have seen Pierce ‘Bron-homme’ Brosnan in the role.

    In fact, I want to see him in every role.
