Earlier this year it was revealed that Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow and screenwriter Mark Boal are reuniting for a new film exploring the 1967 Detroit race riots, and now Star Wars: The Force Awakens star John Boyega has taken to Twitter to announce that he’s joined the cast of the project.

The film will tell the story of the ’12th Street Riot’, which began with a police raid on an unlicensed bar before escalating into one of the most destructive an deadliest riots in U.S. history, with 43 people dead and over 1000 injured.
Boyega, who s currently shooting Star Wars: Episode VIII, has recently signed on to appear in Pacific Rim: Maelstrom, and also has the sci-fi thriller The Circle incoming, where he stars alongside Emma Watson, Tom Hanks and Karen Gillan.
