UK box office top ten and analysis for the weekend of Friday 25th to Sunday 27th July 2014….
Despite competition from Dwayne Johnson’s latest film Hercules, Fox’s simian sequel Dawn of the Planet of the Apes retained top spot at the UK box office, pulling in a solid second weekend haul of £3,752,511, with Hercules having to settle for second after mustering a less-than-impressive opening of £1,449,120.
Hot on the heels of Hercules in third place was horror sequel The Purge: Anarchy, which debuted with £1,165,143, while two other newcomers managed to crack the top ten, with Earth to Echo earning £618,379 in sixth and The House of Magic propping up the chart in tenth place with £223,047.
