Nintendo of Japan has plans to discontinue the Nintendo 3DS XL in Japan in the near future.
A report from Siliconera states that the company is “ending production soon” of the Nintendo 3DS XL, though the original model will remain available for sale. While this means anyone who wants a larger model will have to buy a New Nintendo 3DS XL, the console is already the best-selling of all of the 3DS’.
While there isn’t any news yet from either Nintendo of America or Europe, this is unsurprising as the New Nintendo 3DS has yet to even be released in those regions. In fact, the handheld has yet to get a release date outside of 2015.
The Nintendo 3DS is still going strong, with almost 50 million sales worldwide. The New Nintendo 3DS is the latest iteration of the device, with a larger screen than before and a small C-stick integrated to allow for camera control.
