A video shown at the new video game awards ceremony, The Game Awards, featured two prominent members of Nintendo and some jaw-dropping new footage from The Legend of Zelda Wii U.
Series creator, Shigeru Miyamoto and Zelda Director Fiji Aonuma played through various segments of the unfinished, but already gorgeous open-world title. The gameplay showed off the open-world mechanic, with Link traversing a number of currently sparse, but beautiful areas filled with lush grass, trees and mountain ranges.
In a particularly impressive segment, Link leapt from a tall ledge, only to drift safely across the land with the use of a Sailcloth. The scope on show is truly tremendous. Epona, Link’s trusty steed, also returns and the player barely controls her. Instead, she is designed to move on her own, dodging trees and the like, allowing the player more freedom when operating from the saddle – such as firing their bow from horseback.
Using the Wii U Gamepad, Aonuma was able to access a huge looking map and set waypoints. A tiny travel path on the map was said to take four to five minutes in real time to cross.
The pair also dropped in a quick remark about how the new Star Fox game for Wii U would release before Zelda, though they said Zelda would launch in 2015.
