Despite having released in 2008 back with the NXE (New Xbox Experience) update on the Xbox 360, Microsoft’s colourful player avatars haven’t undergone an awful lot of change since their induction. That might be about to change however.
A keen eye at Dualshockers noticed two Microsoft Xbox software engineering job listings, both of which seem to involve avatars in some way. A line from the listing reads:
“As we cross the threshold to a unified operating system and product experience across Microsoft, it is time to for Xbox avatars to also advance to the next level. Come with us, as we take Xbox avatars on their biggest adventure yet with higher fidelity and a bigger stage in new Xbox experiences.”
Whoever Microsoft decides to hire will “grow the avatar platform across all of our platforms, leveraging the power of the Xbox One, the far reach of Windows, and the intimacy of touch on mobile devices.”
So it sounds like a big deal. The unified operating system might be talking about Windows 10, but we’re going to have to wait and see.
