According to Microsoft Studios Creative Director Ken Lobb, the company is planning on bringing back classic franchises like Banjo-Kazooie, Viva Piñata and Battletoads.
Speaking during an interview on The Inner Circle Podcast, Lobb said: “Will there ever be another Banjo, Viva, Blast Corps, Battletoads? Yeah, someday.” Lobb emphasised that there was a lot of passion internally for these franchises. However, Lobb also said that there was an importance in developing games that people love by digging back into older IP, while developing more recent sequels.
Lobb also wants to make sure that the best teams are on the job, saying: “The best games come from teams that really wanna build something.”
Lobb also praised Xbox head Phil Spencer’s understanding of an IP’s value, saying: “Not just in terms of, ‘let’s go make a new one every year.’ But in terms of, ‘let’s go think about the portfolio and what makes the most sense at the right time.'”
