During the Nintendo Direct today, the company dropped a couple of Amiibo-sized bombshells on their fans. First of all, Amiibo wave 4 will arrive on April 24th, 2015. The latest wave consists of a pretty great line-up.
Pac-Man, Robin, Lucina, Ness, Wario and Charizard make up the 4th wave of the immensely popular figurines. This is the 4th wave of NFC figures that are based on the Super Smash Bros. models. However, while the Amiibo have so far only been based off of Smash Bros., that’s about to change.
Today, Nintendo also revealed a whole new set of Amiibo based off of the Super Mario universe. Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi and Bowser are being released a second time, albeit with completely new poses based off of their official artwork in the current Super Mario titles. The first completely new Amiibo from this set is Toad, whose Amiibo also works with Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker.
In the picture below, you can see the comparison between the Smash Bros. Amiibo on the left, and the Super Mario Amiibo on the right.
Nintendo also confirmed that Codename: S.T.E.A.M will work with the Fire Emblem Amiibo, while Mario Party 10 allows you to use all of the Super Mario Amiibo, alongside Wario, Donkey Kong and Rosalina & Luma’s Smash Bros figures. Doing so however will cause their Smash Bros data to be wiped, so watch out.
Amiibo support is to be added to existing Nintendo 3DS’ via an update in February and a NFC sensor accessory will be sold separately.
