We knew that Suicide Squad was going to help expand the burgeoning DC Cinematic Universe, and now we have further proof. A new photo from the set of the film has surfaced (thanks to ComicBook.com), teasing a new location for Task Force X to visit:
As you can see, the police car here is from Midway City, which comic book readers will immediately recognize as the home of Hawkman, Hawkgirl, and even the Doom Patrol. Whether any of those heroes will actually show up in the film is unlikely (maybe the Squad just breaks into the museum Hawkman and Hawkgirl work at?), but David Ayer could be planting the seeds for their future appearances in the DCCU. Hawkman and Hawkgirl are important members of both the Justice League and Justice Society, so one could easily see them joining the ranks of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and the rest of the gang at some point down the line. The Doom Patrol are a bit more obscure, but hey, we just saw Gorilla Grodd on TV, so anything can happen.
We’ll know for sure what this easter egg means when Suicide Squad arrives on August 5th, 2016. The film features a cast that includes Will Smith (Focus) as Deadshot, Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club) as The Joker, Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street) as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney (Terminator Genisys) as Captain Boomerang, Joel Kinnaman (RoboCop) as Rick Flagg, Viola Davis (How to get Away with Murder) as Amanda Waller, Cara Delevingne (Paper Towns) as Enchantress, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Thor: The Dark World) as Killer Croc, Ray Olubowale (Resident Evil: Afterlife) as King Shark, Jay Hernandez (Hostel) as El Diablo, Adam Beach (Flags of our Fathers) as Slipknot, Jim Parrack (Fury) as Johnny Frost, Ike Barinholtz (The Mindy Project) as Hugo Strange, newcomer Karen Fukuhara as Katana, and Common (Selma) and Scott Eastwood (The Longest Ride) and in as-yet-unconfirmed roles.
