Sony’s Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida has revealed that the company’s first party studios aren’t working on any big games.
“To be honest, I wouldn’t say we will have big AAA Vita games from first party,” Yoshida said to IGN. Despite this, Yoshida reaffirmed the continued third-party support for the company’s waning handheld. “But yesterday, Square Enix announced the new World of Final Fantasy. That’s coming on PS Vita as well. And as you know and as I know, there are great games that come out digitally on PS Vita that are typically cross-platform with PS4. Volume is coming out soon and Super Time Force Ultra. There’s no lack of great games you can play on PS Vita and PS4. You can play at home on PS4 and continue on with cloud save on PS Vita.”
As for why Vita didn’t show up at Sony’s E3 conference, aside from during the sizzle reel, Yoshida said: “We have so much amazing AAA content from third parties, we have to put lots of those smaller games, including our own, into the trailer of everything. And so Vita games are the same. That’s how things are.”
