It had been teased a few weeks back on Raw, but a broken nose injury to John Cena by Seth Rollins meant that the title vs. title match for Summerslam was off the card. With Cena off Raw this week, it looked like they were putting a contingency in place of replacing Cena with Randy Orton at the PPV should he not come back. Well, on last night’s Tough Enough it looks like he’s all healed and ready to go – and WWE.com officially announced the match.
The stakes have never been as great as they will be at SummerSlam when WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins faces United States Champion John Cena. The winner takes all, and for the first time in WWE history, one Superstar will control both titles. Amid speculation that the Cenation leader would not be cleared to compete at The Biggest Party of the Summer, Cena accepted (with Daniel Bryan’s support) Rollins’ challenge during an appearance on the Aug. 11 edition of WWE Tough Enough.
Also taking place at Summerslam will be a three-team Diva’s match featuring Team BAD, P.C.B and Team Bella, The Prime Time Players defending their Tag Team Championships against The New Day, Los Matadores and The Lucha Dragons, Ryback defending the IC Championship against The Big Show and The Miz, The Wyatts taking on Roman Reigns & Dean Ambrose with Brock Lesnar vs. The Undertaker as the headline match. Kevin Owens will presumably also have a match with Cesaro.
WWE Summerlam airs live on the WWE Network and traditional PPV on August 23rd
