Rockstar has just made their biggest announcement concerning GTA Online since the Heists add on. A new list of activities titled Freemode Events are the developer’s next foray into the ever evolving world of GTA Online.
Freemode Events give players the opportunity to join other players to complete various objectives without ever entering a loading screen. The seamless integration of players in events is in direct response to GTA Online’s largest complaint dealing with lobby wait times that last too long.
While Rockstar says they will be updating these events constantly so far there are 2 main modes. First is Hunt the Beast, where one player takes the guise of a Teen Wolf style monster gifted with super speed and strength. The beast will be invisible on radar until it reaches a number of checkpoints which will result in its’ location being revealed for a short time, allowing other pursuing players to get a hint as to the correct location.
The second mode is King of the Castle, which is a basic king of the hill style free for all where various locations around the map are used as towers to you and other players to conquer. Along with the two main modes comes a variety of stunt challenges that can be done alone or with others, all for some extra in game cash and reputation points.
Also announced alongside Freemode Events are two new adversary modes; Hunting Pack and Cross the Line. Hunting Pack faces two groups of players against each other in a high speed chase with one side protecting a VIP and the other trying to destroy it. Cross the Line pits two teams against each other in an attempt to get their entire team to the enemy’s side before the same happens to them. Lastly, just to sweeten the deal the Rockstar in-game editor will become available for PS4 and Xbox One users to allow console users to create their own content.
Freemode Events is out tomorrow.
