Alex Gibney’s (The Armstrong Lie) controversial Scientology documentary Going Clear has been dropped by a cinema in Clearwater, Florida – home to the world spiritual headquarters of the Church.

A story in The Hollywood Reporter alleges that the Cobb Countryside 12 cinema has told HBO within the last few days that it would not carry the film after receiving threats from the Church.
Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief, made by HBO, aired on US television in March and was heavily criticised by Scientologists for its damning allegations about the way the church operates under the leadership of figurehead David Miscavige.
Following a brief release in UK cinemas earlier this year, Going Clear will air in the UK on Sky Atlantic on September 21st.
