StudioCanal is pressing ahead with family comedy sequel Paddington 2 and has secured the first film’s director Paul King to return, according to a report over at Deadline.
As well as returning to direct, King will develop the story for Paddington 2, with the help of Horrible Histories alumnus Simon Farnaby.
Farnaby appeared briefly as a security guard in Paddington and has worked with King previously as one of the stars of the director’s debut feature Bunny and the Bull.
The Paddington franchise is reportedly a priority for StudioCanal following the first film’s mainstream success, scooping over $250m at the box office and breaking records on DVD.
Casting for Paddington 2 has not yet been confirmed, but StudioCanal will be looking to bring back Ben Whishaw (Spectre) as the voice of the eponymous bear.
