Christmas jumpers are now compulsory – required for National Christmas Jumper Day (enforced by law), Christmas jumper-themed parties (enforced by social pressure) and to celebrate the saviour of the world, Father Christmas. Thankfully, they’re also no longer naff, with a whole host of movie and comic book-themed designs to confuse elderly relatives at family get-togethers.
Here are five picks from the Flickering Myth Store, which has a hefty discount all weekend for Black Friday. Click on any of the jumpers below to take you right there where you can digitally hand over your money in exchange for clothing. We live in a magical time. Especially for the super discounted price of $27 a jumper (until 5am GMT, Saturday)…
From a distance, this looks like any other well-meaning Christmas jumper. A little closer on inspection, however, this is a tapestry of Harry Potter geekdom. There’s the Gryffindor colour scarf at the top and bottom, symmetrical lightning patterns for Harry’s forehead scar and a big old Hedwig the Owl slap bang in the middle.
This is one of the more obvious movie-themed jumper designs on here, with Storm Trooper heads, TIE Fighters and Rebel Alliance symbols adorning the front. But this isn’t just any old Star Wars-themed Christmas jumper – this is a specifically Kylo Ren-themed Christmas jumper, with his trademark hilted lightsaber in the middle.
What says festive happiness more than the unnameable horror of Cthulhu? A lot of things, actually. But this way your grandma can compliment the cute alien design on your jumper without realising she’s actually praising H.P. Lovecraft’s The Sleeper of R’lyeh.
This isn’t really a movie-themed jumper (Mario and Pikachu’s silver screen appearances aside), but nothing encapsulates the awkward, slightly drunken family arguments over Christmas dinner like Ninentdo’s family of assorted characters battling each other for fun. For extra points, wear when playing the most recent Super Smash Bros. game.
Oh, it’s Chewbacca. Nice Star Wars-themed Christmas jumper. But…wait a second, what’s ‘Life Day’? I don’t understand. Shouldn’t it say ‘Merry Christmas’?
No, you culturally insensitive Imperial scum. Life Day is a Wookiee holiday celebrated by the inhabitants of Kashyyyk every three years, and is the subject of the comically bad Star Wars Holiday Special from the 80s. Spread the word.
