The first set of pictures from Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, the upcoming film adaptation of Kim Baker’s memoir The Taliban Shuffle: Strange Days in Afghanistan and Pakistan, which follows her time as a war correspondent in Afghanistan and Pakistan, have hit the web. The images show Tina Fey’s Baker on assignment in Kabul and give us a peek at Martin Freeman’s Iain MacKelpie, a Scottish photographer and love interest for Baker. Check out all three of the pictures (via USA Today) here…
Previously, the project shared its title with the book, being called The Taliban Shuffle, but then Paramount changed its name to Fun House; now, the studio seems to have settled on the name Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.
In addition to Fey and Freeman, the film also stars Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street) as a British TV journalist who befriends Baker, Billy Bob Thornton (Our Brand is Crisis) as an intimidating military man, Alfred Molina (Secret in Their Eyes) as a local officer who has a crush on Baker “and doesn’t have the best boundaries with that” and Christopher Abbott (A Most Violent Year) as Fahim Ahmadzai, a “driver, translator and all-around handyman for reporters.”
Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (Crazy, Stupid, Love.) are directing a script which comes from Robert Carlock (30 Rock). According to the USA Today article, Carlock wanted to write a film that was tonally similar to Robert Altman’s MASH and Mike Nichols’ Catch-22, two dramedies set during wars.
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot is set to be released into theaters on March 4, 2016.
