Following the release of the first trailer for Star Trek Beyond, the Flickering Myth writing team shared their reaction, with Anghus Houvouras stating that “They handed the franchise to Justin Lin who seems to have taken the baton from J.J. Abrams and used it to snort some cocaine rails off the bridge of the Enterprise before beating Gene Roddenberry’s lifeless corpse into a pulpy mess” and Tom Jolliffe adding, “It seems to me like this new franchise has gradually gone from aspiring to be like Star Wars, to wanting to be like The Avengers or Fast and Furious series”.
Amongst the negativity there were a few positive words for the trailer; however the harsh sentiment doesn’t seem to have been dished out just from the reviewers here at Flickering Myth.
Wil Wheaton, who once treaded the corridors of the Enterprise-D as Wesley Crusher has recently tweeted his opinion of the trailer and it would appear he’s rather unimpressed about it all too.
Going one step further than this we have previous Enterprise helmsman and U.S.S. Excelsior Captain Sulu (George Takei) also airing his disappointment at the direction of this latest Star Trek film over at Tech Insider, echoing Anghus’s comments above, though not as colourful.
