WWE.com is reporting that top star John Cena has suffered a severe shoulder injury, and will be undergoing surgery tomorrow. The superstar also took to Twitter to comment on the unfortunate incident.
Rather upside down start to 2016 as tomorrow I will head to Birmingham for shoulder surgery. Life's full of set backs but #nevergiveup
— John Cena (@JohnCena) January 7, 2016
PWinsider is also reporting that the specifics of the injury is a torn rotator cuff that will see the Cena miss anywhere from 6-9 months of in-ring action. It is being described as a similar injury to the one Randy Orton suffered late last year.
The real kicker to this news is that Cena will miss WrestleMania 32, which is undoubtedly a huge setback for WWE. Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer noted last week that the company had matches for their top stars laid out with months of storylines planned. Cena was, of course, part of those plans.
More details will inevitably come to light sooner than later, but this certainly throws a wrench in the rumored plans for Cena to square off against The Undertaker at WrestleMania 32.
We here at Flickering Myth would like to wish John Cena luck and hope for a healthy recovery.
