New set photos from Marvel’s upcoming Netflix show Luke Cage have popped up online, thanks to Getty Images (via CBM). The images show Mike Colter’s titular superhero squaring off against the New York Police Department and using his superhuman strength and unbreakable skin to aid him in the conflict.
While it may be too early to know for sure, the photos seem to indicate that the show will tackle one of the more serious social injustices facing African-Americans today: police brutality. It’s entirely possible that 2015’s Jessica Jones, a show that took on such real world issues as sexual assault, has ushered in a new era of Marvel shows that address hot-button problems.
See the photos down below, but be warned, they may feature minor spoilers…
The first season of Jessica Jones, which was released late last year, introduced Cage into the world of Hell’s Kitchen and the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe. Other than Luke Cage, the character will be teaming up with Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Iron Fist in The Defenders, a crossover miniseries that will be released on Netflix in the future.
Luke Cage is set arrive on Netflix in November 2016, with Mike Colter leading the cast as the Power Man alongside Rosario Dawson (Daredevil) as Claire Temple, Theo Rossi (Sons of Anarchy) as Shades, Alfre Woodard (Desperate Housewives) as Black Mariah, Simone Missick (Ray Donovan) as Misty Knight, Mahershala Ali (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay) as Cottonmouth, Frank Whaley (Gotham) as Detective Scarfe and Sonia Braga (Brothers & Sisters) as Soledad Temple.
