Captain America: Civil War – only a month and a half away from release – has just released its second full trailer. To put that in perspective, by this point in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’s marketing campaign, half the film had been released.Spoile-ah, what’s the point?
The trailer was received pretty positively in our Flickering Myth Reaction piece (compared to Batman v Superman’s second trailer, at least), but there was one recurring piece of negative criticism:
Spider-Man, Spider-Man, does whatever CGI can.
As a recap on Spidey’s cinematic wardrobe so far, Luke Owen has written a piece detailing every movie costume he’s worn since the disturbingly gimp-like suit from 1978. How much we’ll actually get to see of the web-slinger remains to be seen, but with a revealed 147 minute run-time – the longest Marvel Cinematic Universe movie to date – probability suggests at least ‘a bit’.It’s a strong look.
Although the film is emblazoned ‘Captain America’, many other MCU characters feature. Most prominently is Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark, who sees the movie as his “little Iron Man 4“.Get it? It’s a ‘little Iron Man’! Ah, forget it…
Also, if you didn’t love everyone involved in the Avengers enough already, this Behind the Scenes video will MAKE YOU.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is much further away, scheduled for release a whole year after Civil War. And, to make those 365 days feel even longer, recent reports suggest Sylvester Stallone is in it.
That isn’t the only piece of terrific superhero movie casting this week: J.K. Simmons – he of Spider-Man’s J. Jonah Jameson and Whiplash bicep fame – has been cast as Commissioner Jim Gordon in DC’s upcoming Justice League movie. He better get to know Jena Malone real quick.Moustaches. Moustaches everywhere.
In ‘people who aren’t involved in the DCEU’ news, Christian Bale appearing in BvS was once apparently considered, Jeff Nichols has spoken about why he turned down the Aquaman directing gig, and BvS and Justice League: Part 1 writer Chris Terrio has hinted that he might not return for Part 2.“Is Batman following me again?”
Which is saddening. Terrio is a terrific writer – Oscar winning (for Argo), no less. Cheer yourself up with the latest set photos of Gal Gadot in Wonder Woman. This isn’t one of them, but I like this photo so it’s staying in.
