Just two years after the United States produced their version of The King of the Monsters with Gareth Edward’s Godzilla, Japanese company Toho – the creators of the creature – announced they were reviving their franchise with Godzilla: Resurgence. We’ve had a few images and a poster for the movie, and now we’ve got the first trailer which you can watch below:
Well, it certainly looks like a Godzilla movie, doesn’t it?
This will be the first Japanese Godzilla movie since 2004’s Godzilla: Final Wars, which marked the fifty anniversary for The King of the Monster after making his debut in Gojira in 1954. Godzilla: Resurgence will be the twenty-ninth Japanese-produced Godzilla film and his thirty-first big screen appearance.
Godzilla Resurgence is slated for release in the summer of 2016, with Hideaki Anno (Neon Genesis Evangelion) and Shinji Higuchi (Gamera) directing a cast that includes Hiroki Hasegawa, Yutaka Takenouchi, Satomi Ishihara and of course, the King of the Monsters himself.
