To say the animated adaptation of Batman: The Killing Joke is highly anticipated would be an understatement. It wasn’t that long ago we got a 10-minute behind the scenes look at the film, as well as confirmation it will be rated R, and now we have an official trailer to go with it.
The Killing Joke is considered to be one of the most influential graphic novels of all time, even if it comes with a lot of controversy surrounding the subject matter. Regardless of where you stand on the debate, it’s hard to deny the significant impact The Killing Joke has had on the comic medium.
Written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Brian Bolland, The Joker once again escapes from Arkham Asylum with the intent of proving to Batman and Gotham City that “all it takes is one bad day” for a sane person to go insane. To do that, he inflicts terrible trauma on the Gordon family, forever changing the lives of Gotham’s heroes. The animated film will reunite producer/animator Bruce Timm with longtime Batman and Joker voice actors Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill, along with famed voice actress Tara Strong as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl, who voiced the character in The New Batman Adventures. Batman: The Killing Joke will premiere at the San Diego Comic Con this summer and released on Blu-ray sometime later this year.
