Over in the X-Verse, Wolverine is still in everything. After months of 20th Century Fox teasing Huge Jacked Man’s appearance in X-Men: Apocalypse – and the Internet replying, ‘yeah, we always figured he’d be in it anyway’ – the film’s latest trailer has confirmed Logan for the movie. If he was revealed in a Civil War post-credits scene, however, Reddit might implode.
Meanwhile, Wolverine’s next film – and Huge Jacked Man’s last as the character – has added Richard E. Grant and Stephen Merchant to the project. They’re both British, so one will be the comedic relief tech-guy, and the other will be the baddie. Grant has been described as the film’s “mad scientist villain,” which is a shame. Given Merchant’s voice work in Portal 2, he’d have been greatly cast against type as the antagonist. He just screams ‘cold hearted killer’.
Speaking of antagonists, Princes William and Harry have reportedly shot stormtrooper cameos for Star Wars: Episode VIII. Given Harry’s infamous SS fancy dress costume incident, the role won’t be much of a stretch.Does that make the Queen Emperor Palpatine?
And over at Rogue One, Mads Mikkelsen has accidentally revealed who his character is. Spoilers, obviously. This would never have happened on J.J.’s watch…
The new Star Wars tradition of having strong female protagonists seems to have rubbed off on the rest of the movie business. That, or the more likely: the movie business has noticed that something made money and will now rinse that something for all it’s worth. Warner Bros.’ new Tomb Raider movie has found its Lara Croft – Oscar winner Alicia Vikander. Tony Black has looked back on the reboot’s long development history.
Maze Runner: The Death Cure might end up having an equally long production, with filming on the movie now indefinitely shut down. Back in March, lead actor Dylan O’Brien was hospitalised after a reported fall on set, and his injuries are apparently more serious than first thought. No silly captions here. Just well wishes for a speedy recovery. I freaking love the Maze Runner movies.
Elsewhere in development news, Zombieland 2 finally looks to be shuffling forward with a scheduled summer shoot; The Happytime Murders will see Jamie Foxx acting alongside puppets (in the good, not-Amazing Spider-Man 2 way); and Goosebumps is getting a sequel – although anything Sony can do, Disney can do more of, officially announcing Jungle Book 2, Maleficent 2, Mary Poppins 2 and 101 Dalmatians spin-off Cruella. The Jungle Book sets a terrible example for how children should approach wild animals.
We got another set photo of Elizabeth Banks’ Rita Repulsa from the upcoming Power Rangers reboot; 20th Century Fox has released the first official image for Ridley Scott’s Alien: DON’T MENTION THE PROMETHEUS; and the latest image from the Baywatch movie proves it’ll be one of the prettiest films of all time.Poor Comedic Relief : (
And finally, the week’s best trailers – Absolutely Fabulous absolutely kills it – and by ‘it’, I mean ‘Kate Moss’; Shane Black’s The Nice Guys gets some very clever, retro marketing; and a teaser for Oliver Stone’s Snowden has been leaked online.
But to play us out, here’s a trailer for the Captain America franchise – arguably the only trilogy in movie history that gets better with each instalment.
May the Movies be with you.
