In today’s WrestleTalk News, the latest backstage revelation about Roman Reigns’ WWE suspension, a top Lucha Underground star potentially on their way to WWE, and how hard is Dean Ambrose working as WWE Champion? Here’s a clue: very.
Lucha Underground Star To WWE?
Our top story today is the latest backstage revelation of Roman Reigns’ WWE suspension, but first, one of the most exciting wrestlers in the world looks like he’s off to WWE.
Warning: spoilers for Lucha Underground Season Three. Yes, you read that right. Despite Season 2 not even being finished on first-run television yet, some of Season 3 is already in the can, which is expected to air next Summer. Now that’s long-term booking.
So here come the spoilers.
In Ultima Lucha Tres – which translates into English as Ultima Lucha Three. Yeah, I did GCSE Spanish – Prince Puma reportedly lost a retirement match. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter claims Trevor Mann – the man underneath the Prince Puma mask – will sign with WWE rather than stay at Lucha Underground, who were apparently offering a lucrative deal.
If you’re watching this thinking, ‘Que?’ you might know Prince Puma by a different name. He also works under the alias Ricochet, and he was the other person in Will Ospreay’s Best of the Super Juniors match that went viral earlier this year.
The Observer went onto say that he will go to WWE as soon as his current Lucha Underground deal legally allows – which is apparently a lot sooner than the end of 2017 date previously thought. It just goes to show how aggressively WWE are pursuing more talent with their approaching brand split.
Dean Ambrose, Fighting Champion
Being the WWE Champion means more than just getting a flashy, if impractical, means to hold up your jeans. Holding that belt effectively makes you the face of the company, and more responsible than ever for its commercial and financial successes. In short, no one wants to be Diesel in 1995.
So hats off to WWE Champion Dean Ambrose, who is giving the title run his all with a very intense schedule. He defended the belt last Saturday night, then again on two different live events on Sunday, he wrestled twice on Raw, and twice again on Smackdown – including dark matches. And last night, he retained the title in a Fatal 4 Way at the big WWE event in Hawaii, where he immediately hopped on a plane to Tokyo to wrestle in Japan on Friday and Saturday night. Then he’s back in the States for Raw and Smackdown on Monday and Tuesday.
Say what you will about Dean Ambrose as WWE Champion, but you can’t fault the hours he’s putting in.
