RAW’s Brand Split Makeover!
Our top story today is Jeff Hardy’s comments about returning to WWE, but first – it’s a new era. And Raw…was Cor.
The first post-brand split episode of Monday Night RAW aired last night, and the presentation of the show has undergone a massive overhaul. We got a new opening video package, logo, theme music (which is called ‘Enemies’ by Shinedown, if you want to add that to your workout playlist) and set. The stage now has a theatre-like proscenium arch, and – in the biggest change – the commentators are now over by the entrance ramp, WCW Nitro-style.
Which is very refreshing, but also poses the rather worrying logistical question: How’s Shane McMahon going to do a flying elbow onto the announcer’s table now?
The biggest news, though, was who WWE are positioning as Monday Night’s top star. After a series of matches to decide number one draft pick Seth Rollins’ Summerslam opponent, NXT call-up Finn Balor defeated Roman Reigns clean on his debut night on the main roster.
The winner of Rollins vs Balor at Summerslam will become the first ever, newly-created WWE Universal Champion (presumably so-called so aliens can now compete for the title ahead of the company’s lucrative expansion into the Dagobah system).
