In this episode of the WrestleTalk News, rumours of Kurt Angle and MVP for a return to WWE, with two ex-WWE stars already confirmed for Smackdown Live. And is Roman Reigns finished as a top star?!
Roman Reigns Done As Top Guy!
Our top story today is the load of ex-WWE stars returning to the company for the Brand Split, but first, he’s not a good guy. He’s not a bad guy. And, for the foreseeable future at least, he’s not a top guy.
Vince McMahon has been pushing Roman Reigns as WWE’s next John Cena – the new face of the company – for over two years, but Plan A has now been seemingly abandoned. Even before Reigns’ Wellness Policy violation last month, a huge portion of the fanbase rejected him, and the house shows he headlined weren’t drawing as much money as expected.
So now, after taking the pinfall loss at Battleground on Sunday, and being pinned clean by the debuting Finn Balor on RAW the next night, it seems WWE is done with Reigns as the top star for the foreseeable future. The Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer agrees:
“I know they were disappointed in him, but the idea of, ‘Would they change the direction they’ve been pushing for two years’, it looks like they will. Because the old Roman Reigns, there’s no way they’re beating him clean two straight pay-per-views.”
Meltzer also said that WWE won’t be pushing Reigns as a top guy “for the time being.”
