After yesterday’s news relating to Cornerstone Media and Retro Computers Ltd. going their separate ways, the retrogaming community was obviously wondering what this meant for the future of the Sinclair ZX Spectrum Vega+. Was this handheld retro console, that recently secured £400K+ on Indiegogo, now dead in the water? Well just morning on the ZX Vega+ campaign page, a tech specs update was posted which seems to suggest it really, isn’t and that work is carrying on as normal to get the product out as expected. We even received a statement from Dr David Levy – the Chairman of Retro Computers Ltd – highlighting that feedback and product reviews have prompted a “clean sheet” approach to the Vega+.
“While developing our own software to supersede that of the original Vega product, we have taken a “clean sheet” approach and are introducing several new features prompted by user feedback and product reviews of the Vega. We feel very confident that our new software will be even better received by consumers. We will be announcing more new features from time to time between now and when we launch the Vega+.” (Dr. David Levy, Chairman of Retro Computers Ltd)
The new features stated on the latest release include:-
- Record video straight to SD Card to share amongst friends
- Virtual keyboard
- Quick game loading times
- Improved screen brightness
You can see the image of the virtual keyboard below, though it appears small this is just a demo screen and we don’t know what the final product will look like at the time. It is also noted the screen is cracked on this image due to some “serious testing”.
Hopefully in the coming weeks we should receive more updates as the it gets closer to the release date, though how the Cornerstone Media issue has effect the planned timetable we don’t know at this moment.
What do you think of these latest updates to the ZX Vega+? Are you happy to finally see a keyboard appear on the Vega+ and will this be swaying you into making a purchase, as this was a big bone of contention with a number of previous neighsayers?
