During their presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios revealed a brand new logo for Thor: Ragnarok, the 17th installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. See it for yourself below…
The logo is certainly more fun than the studio’s previous logo for the movie, which was revealed before Taika Waititi, a director best known for his work on such comedies as What We Do in the Shadows and Hunt for the Wilderpeople, signed on. It also features the new Marvel Studios logo at the top, which was revealed to the Hall H crowd at the very beginning of the panel.
A Ragnarok sizzle reel was also shown, along with production art that revealed Planet Hulk and Thor and Hulk facing off in a gladiator ring scenes. Not to mention, the audience was also treated to a funny 5-minute short made by Waititi about Thor moving to Australia. Here’s a description via Coming Soon…
In the Thor clip, we see a mini documentary about how Thor, stressed from everything he’s been doing with the Avengers, has moved to New Zealand and has moved in with a normal guy named Darryl as his roommate. One scene has him sitting with Bruce Banner at a cafe. Banner is shocked that Thor hasn’t hear about everything that’s going on between Cap and Iron Man. Thor seems a little miffed that Iron Man hasn’t called him, but admits that he doesn’t have a phone. “Tell him to send me a raven!” he says. Thor gives a tour of his room which has “Keep Out Darryl” written in runes on his door. He has made a bed for Mjolinir and has a crudely made chart on the wall that says “What are infinity stones?”. He points to a drawing of Thanos and calls him a “purple guy”. Thor says he hates standing up. One scene has Thor reading to a class of children and showing drawing of the Avengers. One kid recognizes Vision and Thor says, “I’m actually surprised you knew who that was!” It ends with a sizzle reel that shows all sorts of concept art and behind the scenes footage from Ragnarok. Highlights include a massive fiery creature [Surtur] and a reveal of Cate Blanchett’s Hela. There’s also a massive wolf and unfinished renderings of a Planet Hulk Hulk. The footage ends with a rendering of Thor and Hulk clashing in an arena.
Thor: Ragnarok is being directed by Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows) and features Marvel veterans Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Idris Elba as Heimdall and Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk alongside Cate Blanchett as Hela, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster and Karl Urban as Skurge. It is set for release on November 3rd, 2017.
