At least DC own all the movie rights to their characters. Marvel are still missing a back issue or two to complete their set: namely the X-Men, currently held hostage by the evil 20th Century Fox. Rumours are rumbling again that the studio are considering a ‘Spider-Man deal’ with Marvel to bring all the characters into the MCU. But first, priorities, please: Anna Kendrick wants to play Squirrel Girl. It’ll be Marvel’s first squirrel-led solo movie.
Warcraft might have disappointed domestically, but the rise of the Chinese box office has made it the biggest video game movie ever with a $400 million worldwide gross. It bodes well for the similarly fantastical franchise Dungeons & Dragons, which is currently going after Fault in Our Stars heart-throb Ansel Elgort. He’s so dreamy.
In other franchise news, Daniel Radcliffe claims he has not ruled out a return to the Harry Potter-verse, and Disney have announced Wreck-It Ralph 2 for 2018.“Just when I thought I was out…!”
“But I like my franchises from the 90s!” Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Independence Day: Resurgence underwhelmed with $41.6 million on its opening weekend (it’s a disaster *of a* movie! …although I quite liked it)…We’re gonna need a bigger ocean.
Bryan Cranston has spoken about his next role as Zordon in the Power Rangers reboot (although he kept quiet on the controversial ‘blue-ing up’)…Power Rangers, bitch!
“Nope. Still not satisfied. I want my franchise news to be rooted in 80s nostalgia!” Got that covered, too. Much like the BLASTED BLOCKS FILLING UP THE DAMN SCREEN, The Tetris Movie is apparently just too big to be one movie; it’s going to be a trilogy. Presumably the four-block-long line piece only appears in the third instalment to save the day. It’ll be a blockbuster! …I’ll see myself out.
And Ivan Reitman, director of the first two Ghostbusters movies, has argued the hate for Paul Feig’s all-female reboot isn’t sexist – it could just be because people don’t want to see a precious part of their childhood remade. Surely not! That wouldn’t fit at all with Sony’s marketing strategy…ANYONE WHO DISLIKES THIS MOVIE HATES WOMEN.
It’s out on the 11th July, so we can soon all judge for ourselves. But until then, to play us out, here’s the ‘Lady Gypsy’ music video from David Brent: Life on the Road. The sex is free.
May the Movies be with you.
