Finn Balor Out For Six Months With Injury
Our top story is the backstage fight between Chris Jericho and Brock Lesnar after the Summerslam main event, but first: Finn Balor has had to relinquish his WWE Universal Championship because of an injury.
After winning the new Intergalactic Belt, making him Wrestling Overlord of the Galaxy, Balor celebrated on Summerslam night by eating a chicken curry with his parents. The next day he appeared on Good Morning America to be interviewed about the win, and the Universal Title even got custom Finn Balor plates. But beneath the surface, all wasn’t well.
Coming out of his Summerslam match against Seth Rollins there were reports that Balor had picked up a serious injury after being powerbombed into the barricade. ESPN’s Arash Markazi tweeted that Finn had a torn labrum – which is a piece of cartilage in the shoulder.
WWE opened last night’s Raw confirming the Finn-jury themselves. The new champion will be decided next week in a fatal fourway match between Kevin Owens, Big Cass, Seth Rollins and, yes…Roman Reigns.
WWE are saying Finn will be out for up to six months, but Markazi tweeted that the usual recovery period for that type of injury is actually 2-3 months. WWE could be using the old John Cena trick, where they say he’ll be out for a lot longer than expected so his early return will appear even more superhuman.
But maybe the truth lies somewhere in between. The Royal Rumble is in five months, after all.
