2K and Firaxis Games have announced that Gandhi will be returning to his leadership role over India in the upcoming Civilization VI which is due for release on October 21st.
Mahatma Gandhi was a unique person in history; he was the was the preeminent leader of India’s independence movement but where others gained independence by blood Gandhi employed non-violent civil disobedience tactics. Gandhi promoted women’s rights in India and worked towards ending poverty for his people.
In Civilization VI, Gandhi’s special ability is ‘Satyagraha’. This ability means that for every civ that India has me, that has founded a religion and is not at war will give India a significant boost of faith. It also means that enemy civs will get a happiness penalty for fighting wars against India. India also has the ‘Dharma’ ability which allows all cities to have the follower beliefs of all religions in their cities not just their own.
India’s unique unit is the Varu also known as, the war elephant, perhaps one of the most frightening and intimidating cavalry to ever be seen on the battlefield. The Varu reduces the combat strength of adjacent enemy units. The Stepwell is a man-made pond created within an elaborately designed structure, in Civilization VI this is India’s unique tile improvement and provides housing and food. It will provide additional food if built next to a farm and will provide bonus faith if situated next to a holy site.
India will provide players the chance to access all benefits of religions. For more information on Gandhi and the Indians, watch the new trailer.
